05/07/2010 15:53:44 - New York, New York!!
This May saw the grand launch of our 2 new designs “Zinnia” and “Viola” at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York.
It was a great show and the general opinion was that the market in the USA is now recovering and people are feeling a lot more confident.
Everyone loved the new collections and we are really excited that we will now be supplying ABC Home and Carpet, one of the most prestigious home stores in New York. We also had some fantastic leads from the contract market and offers of representation which will help grow the Tay Lighting brand in the US.
I feel that there are exciting times ahead for us both here in the UK and abroad.

02/07/2010 15:51:05 - Auckland, New Zealand - Feb 2010
My next stop was Auckland, New Zealand. Here I had a meeting with ECC, one of the top lighting stores in Auckland and Australia. We are working with them at the moment to get our collection in store. I also had meetings with several architects as Auckland is seeing a lot of development at the moment and doesn’t seem to be so affected by the world recession!
It was a long and wonderful trip (7 flights and 40,000 km!) and I am really excited and confident that Tay will be very successful in the Australasian market.

01/07/2010 14:25:27 - Melbourne, Australia - Feb 2010
I then flew onto Melbourne to repeat my experience in Sydney. Melbourne is a wonderfully vibrant city and reminded me of London in many ways, very artistic and cosmopolitan.
I had meetings regarding pick n’ pack warehousing and bought several interior magazines to research advertising.
Through the Radisson Hotel where I stayed, I got a good contact that is in the contract sector and we are just about to send our first samples for their showroom. Luckily the weather held and I managed to fit in 1 day at St Kildas (again in the name of research!). St Kildas is very like Brighton with lots of fantastic unique locally owned shops but with a beautiful sandy beach!
I really enjoyed my time in Australia and feel that there is definitely a gap in the market that Tay could easily fill!

11/06/2010 14:41:00 - Sydney, Australia - Feb 2010
Well, the start of February saw me embarking on a 3 week trip to Australia and New Zealand to assess the markets and research how best to launch the Tay Lighting range.
My first stop was Sydney – a beautiful city with some wonderful architecture. I attended the Decoration and Design Show to get an insight into the Australian interiors market which was very informative and inspiring.
I then walked various areas of Sydney where there are several independent stylish boutiques and specialist lighting shops. It was so refreshing to see a wide eclectic mix of retail stores – not like the identical high streets here in the UK!
I received really positive feedback which was really encouraging.
The last two days of my trip I had assigned to research Bondi and Manly Beach areas (plus a bit of sunbathing in the glorious weather!) Unfortunately, it then decided to rain – the worst rain in 3 years - just my luck!

10/05/2010 21:06:59 - Happy New Year - Jan 2010
I feel that 2010 is going to be an exciting year for Tay Lighting, and that's saying something after the challenging year that was 2009!
The end of January sees me embarking on a trip to Australia and New Zealand to introduce Tay Lighting to the upcoming Australian market.
In May we will be returning to the USA to participate in the International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York. This show has always been the highlight of our event calender: meeting amazing people and having the opportunity to work on truly inspirational projects such as the Cosmopolitan Hotel, a 3.9 billion dollar construction in Las Vegas, where we supplied gorgeous bespoke lighting for their fantastic chandelier feature bar.
In August we are launching the Tay Lighting Collection to the Scandinavian market and are participating at Formex in Stockholm, Sweden. With the Scandanavian market being very much in the forefront of design at the moment, the positive feedback we have already received and all those long dark winter nights over there I am feeling cautiously optimistic about this new venture!
Mid-January will see the launch of our two new designs "Viola" and "Zinnia". The two beautiful new designs are in White to complement all interiors. Zinnia will be available in a Pendant Shade & Hanging Globe with chains and Viola will be available in a Pendant Shade and Elllipse Pendant with chains. Both the Hanging Globe and Ellipse will be available with UK, EU and USA electrics (for the USA these will now come with a chrome rod and adjustable wires instead of the chain).
We have also added a Pendant Shade in our popular Butterflies Multi design which is a beautiful asset to any room, adult or child!
All items will be available from mid-April and can be seen at our website www.taylighting.com by end February. If you want to pre-order any of the new items then drop me an email at: tina@taylighting.com.
Finally I would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year and may 2010 be a year to remember!!

P.S. I'll keep you updated with my trip to Australia.

10/05/2010 21:06:28 - Welcome to the new taylighting blog.
I’m Lucy Quick and for the last 6 years I’ve been working with my friend Tina Hancox (the owner and founder of Taylighting) designing some of the ranges of her beautiful lamps and lighting. We are incredibly busy at the moment – making sure that the new website is as fully functioning as it is beautiful and for me personally, gathering together the inspiration and source ideas for the new collection of natural resin lamps as well as a new range of incised and etched fabric shades … All the new ranges will be previewed on the website this autumn…
I’ve just got back from Brighton having spent a scorching weekend there. The highlight (apart from an amazing pavlova style cake at Bill’s café) was a visit to the tiny but ever so gorgeous Castor and Pollux gallery featuring work by artists Rob Ryan, Angie Lewin, Roman Klonek and lots more. I love the art but I always end up buying some of the great children’s toys and/or the fantastic art and photography books. I wondered if they would be selling Rob Ryan’s wooden ‘key to my heart’ but think they may well be exclusive to Liberty’s. As the new anthropologie store is set to open soon on London’s Regent Street I can foresee an imminent trip to London’s ‘style mile’…
I have been suffering from house envy recently. The Dulwich open house festival was awash with beautifully designed houses with immaculate décor. Charcoal grey walls teamed with either crisp white or soft naturals kept cropping up in different locations. The effect was stunning especially when teamed with rich, earthy textiles and rugs from Afghanistan and Morocco. In all these houses lighting was so important – lashings of natural light pouring in from huge sky windows, glass walls etc. is always going to have a huge impact but I loved the use of lamps that were clustered together giving a really dramatic lighting effect and bringing focus into different areas of the room.
Seeing all these amazing rooms has been a huge incentive for me to restyle the sitting room ( high on my agenda for months now) and I’ve decided that the best way forward is to update the lighting and walls (viridescent by Sanderson) and get lots of new and lovely cushions. Since I am loving the new artisan/handcrafted trend and as I also have a fabric chest stuffed full of all the various bits of cut offs, remnants and textile gems that I’ve collected, acquired and been dumped with over the years, I thought I would make most of the cushions myself. I was chuffed to discover some long forgotten linens and cottons in bitter chocolate and various shades of sea blues and green as well as some scraps of rose and coral silk – my colour palette. The next step was to try out the decorative stitches on my sewing machine… Hours of fun! A friend was kind enough to describe my initial swatches as ‘very Missoni’ … I will be posting pictures of the finished cushions on this page and invite you to comment! The final touch and main feature of the room will be three Minerva floor lamps clustered together. I love this ranges’ warm chocolatey tones and beautifully intricate pattern - perfect for grounding my colour scheme and adding some extra sophistication and subtlety… well, after all this toil I’m sure I deserve it!
